IMH logoOn August 30, Iglesia Menonita Hispana (IMH), the Hispanic Mennonite Church of MC USA, held its Biennial Assembly on Zoom. Initially planned as an in-person event, the online gathering nonetheless provided significant space for reflection, worship and decision making.

A call for unity in difficult times

Sue Park Hur, director of racial-ethnic identity for Mennonite Church USA, delivered a message on the unity of the church in the face of the social challenges currently facing the country. She emphasized that, amid uncertainty, divisions and conflicts, the people of God are called to walk in hope and solidarity.

Park Hur reminded attendees that, “God is our refuge and strength in the most difficult times,” a truth that must support the faith community. She also encouraged them to have courage by keeping their eyes fixed on God, trusting that God accompanies every process and situation.

Election of the new board of directors

One of the key moments of the event was the election of the new board of IMH, a process that sets the direction of the organization for the upcoming years. The elected were:

  • Juan Montes, executive director
  • Rosa Solís, secretary
  • Sergio Nava, finance director (treasurer)
  • Misael Araujo, elected moderator
  • Margie Mejía Caballero, moderator
  • Fernando Ramos, representative to the MC USA Executive Board
  • David Bonilla, member
  • Aurora Parchmont, member

This new board is expected to strengthen the mission and vision of the church, supporting Hispanic congregations in their growth, training and testimony in the different communities they serve.

A meeting of faith and commitment

The Biennial Assembly was not only an administrative and organizational space, but it also was a shared experience of faith. The online format allowed voices from different regions to unite in the same spirit, confirming that distance does not limit communion or commitment to God’s call.

The event closed with an atmosphere of gratitude and expectation, reaffirming the purpose of continuing to walk together as a church, trusting that the Lord guides every step and opens paths of hope amid the current challenges.
