Mennonite Church USA Archives collaboration puts more information at users’ fingertips

By MC USA staff

Mennonite Church USA (MC USA) Archives has completed its move of digital content to the Mennonite Archive Information Database (MAID), an online database representing 14 Anabaptist partners in the United States and Canada. Announced in April 2020, the collaboration provides users with single-point web access to an expansive catalog of archival photographs and finding aids for faster and easier searching.

“We are not only excited to offer users a larger catalog of resources, but, through MAID, we also have the ability to seamlessly link records in multiple repositories together,” said Jason Kauffman, director of archives and records management of MC USA Archives.

MAID features thousands of historic photos and a quickly growing number of entries describing one-of-a-kind letters, diaries, meeting minutes, travel documents, biographies, audio and video recordings, and more – all accessible to the public.

To access MC USA Archives, which provides links to MAID, Anabaptist History Today, and the MC USA Flickr account, please visit: https://www.mennoniteusa.org/historical-archives/.

Users also may link directly to MAID at https://archives.mhsc.ca/.

Kauffman notes that frequent visitors to the former Mennonite Archival Commons website (formerly found at https://mac.libraryhost.com/) will want to update their internet bookmarks to the new URLs.

Now that the data migration process is complete, the MC USA archives staff can, once again, turn its attention to incorporating new content.

“We’ve received some very exciting new collections, and we are looking forward to sharing those in the coming weeks,” said Kauffman.

For questions regarding the MC USA Archives or the MAID database, please contact Jason Kauffman at JasonK@MennoniteUSA.org.

Mennonite Church USA is the largest Mennonite denomination in the United States with 16 conferences, approximately 530 congregations and 62,000 members. An Anabaptist Christian denomination, MC USA is part of Mennonite World Conference, a global faith family that includes churches in 86 countries. It has offices in Elkhart, Indiana and Newton, Kansas.  mennoniteUSA.org
